Improving Modularity, Interoperability and Extensibility in Ambient Intelligence

چکیده
Ambient Intelligence (AmI) and its related elds emerged some years ago with the exciting promise of pervasive intelligence, magic interaction mechanisms, and everywhere availability. This promise would be materialized in homes that knew all about our habits and preferences, proactive workplaces to support people's work or personal digital assistants to improve our daily living in all aspects possible. This somewhat utopian vision, expected by many to have already taken place, remains unaccomplished and far from it. Many challenges still lay ahead which delayed and continue to delay the expected technological unravelling. In this paper we focus on the immense technological challenges of designing and implementing AmI Systems. Speci cally, we propose a technological approach that will contribute to overcome some of these challenges by making developed AmI solutions more modular, interoperable, and extensible. This will result especially advantageous for large development teams or teams that span multiple institutions.

Persistent Object Systems and Interoperability: Linguistic and Architectural Requirements
An important aspect of currently developed persistent object systems is support for interoperability with other systems. A central issue in supporting interoperability is achieving type compatibility. We argue that abstraction is also a key interoperability issue. The level of abstraction depends on such features as modularity, encapsulation, orthogonality, minimality, clean and precise semanti...
متن کاملA Model-Driven Framework for Hardware-Software Co-design of Dataflow
Hardware-software (HW-SW) co-design allows to meet systemlevel objectives by exploiting the synergy of hardware and software. Current tools and approaches for HW-SW co-design face difficulties coping with the increasing complexity of modern-day application due to, e.g., concurrency and energy constraints. Therefore, an automated modeling approach is needed which satisfies modularity, extensibil...

متن کاملSAMBA - An Agent architecture for Ambient Intelligence Elements Interoperability
The SAMBA (Systems for AMBient intelligence enabled by Agents) architecture reported here is a conceptual service-oriented architecture supporting the interaction and interoperability of systems, applications and actors by the notion of an “Ambient Intelligence Element Society”. The objective is to provide an ecosystem infrastructure supporting the interaction and interoperability of various el...
متن کاملAMBICOM: An Ambient Computing Middleware Architecture for Heterogeneous Environments
Ambient Computing or Ambient Intelligence (AmI) is emerging area in computer science aiming to create intelligently connected environments and Internet of Things. In this paper, we propose communication middleware architecture for AmI. This middleware architecture addresses problems of communication, networking, and abstraction of applications, although there are other aspects (e.g. HCI and Sec...
